The CCF’s annual inspection day was held last Friday, with the contingent being reviewed by Captain Ian Lynn of the Royal Navy. The day itself is a showcase of all the hard work that the cadets undertake in their weekly training throughout the year and was an excellent demonstration of students from Bournemouth School and Bournemouth School for Girls working together.
The day was broken up into three sections:
- A ceremonial inspection parade, held at the rear of Sir David English sports centre, allowed the cadets to show off their uniform turnout as well as their drill skills. This was highly commended by the Inspecting Officer, with the quality of the parade being likened to that of first term officer training at the Brittania Royal Naval College.
- Much of the day was spent with cadets competing in the Contingent Tri-Service Competition. Nine teams of cadets comprising from all three services and led by tireless Year 12 cadets competed against each other in nine different categories, testing cadet skills in stands such as first aid, observation, navigation, fitness, and the STEM challenge.
- The day ended in the school hall, with all cadets coming together to bring the events of the day to a close. The contingent band played a medley of military themes, after which the winners of the competition earlier in the day were announced. The Vulcans, led by Sgt Poppy Brown, were successful in winning the competition, despite not winning any individual events, showing great consistency.
The feedback from attending visitors has been greatly received, with praise rightfully given to both senior and junior cadets showing grit and determination alongside teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day.
The senior cadet team for the next academic year was also announced, with the following roles to be awarded to cadets in early May this year:
Under Officer – Scarlett Thomas
Regimental Sergeant Major – Daniel Wood
Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant – Isabella Shane
Deputy Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant – Taylor Fellows
Head of Royal Navy Section – Zofia Leniarska
Head of Army Section – Poppy Brown
Head of RAF Section – Thomas Dudding
