Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass

Our school is part of Operation Encompass, a national initiative that collaborates with schools and police forces.

Operation Encompass ensures that schools are informed before the start of the next school day if a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse. We have a designated staff member, known as the Key Adult (Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs C Wood), who is trained in Operation Encompass procedures. This allows us to confidentially use the information provided to support the children in our care.

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 recognises children who experience domestic abuse as victims in their own right. On 24 May 2024, the Victims and Prisoners Act received Royal Assent, making Operation Encompass a legal requirement. This means police forces must share Operation Encompass notifications with schools.

We are committed to offering the best support to all our students, and through Operation Encompass, we can provide them with the necessary support. Participation in Operation Encompass mandates a secure record-keeping trail, which may be electronic or paper based. Within Operation Encompass all records are managed at Child Protection level with the highest level of security and confidentiality, and in full accordance with GDPR. These records are held by police and schools only.
